Type Locality and Naming
Along the Katarmai Mountains in the northern part of the Ziaetdin Mountains. A.S. Adelung in 1946 (460, pp.41-42). Stratotype in the central watershed part of the Katarmai Mountains. In this volume, the Katamay Fm is accepted in the present dictionary.
Synonym: Katarmai Suite, Катармайская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Crystalline schists: albite-chlorite, albite-chlorite-actinolite, albite-amphibole, albite-epidote-amphibole, quartz-albite-mica, graphitic, carbonaceous, less frequently quartzites, ferruginous quartzites, and marbles. Thickness 2500m.
The Katamay Fm includes the first and second sub-suites according to V.S. Korsakov (1984).
Tectonic wedges of pelitomorphic limestones with Paleozoic fauna, identified in the Kyzybibi Fm, conditionally of Silurian-Devonian age, and weakly metamorphosed ankaramite basalts and their tuffs, are excluded from their composition.

Regional extent
Eastern part of the northern slope of the Ziaetdin Mountains and the southwestern part of the South Nuratau Range.

Fossils
There are indications of the presence of Precambrian microfossils and problematica (517) in the rocks of the suite, but the strong metamorphism raises doubts about the preservation of paleontological objects.
